S-works 2014 road vs mountain shoe--sizing difference?

Brian A. Davenport Feb 18, 2016 06:52AM PST

I have the 2014 S-works road shoe and it is the lightest, stiffest, most comfortable bike shoe I have ever owned. Loving this experience, I purchased the same shoe in the MTB version. Both size 42, but the MTB version feels like I have a vise on the front of my feet! I set both up the same way with my BG inserts and wedges, and then backed out a wedge on each foot on the MTB shoe thinking the "last" might be a bit different and it might provide some relief. No dice. Still vices on my feet. Same effect thin summer sock or heavy winter wool sock. Any clues?????

Thanks.

Hi Brian,
This sounds like a unique issue, does this experience only happen when you are on the bike or does this happen with out the bike? If it is only happening on the bike there might be a difference in fit between your bikes creating hot spots with the Xc shoes. I would recommend working with your Local Specialized retailer to help resolve the issue.

It's both on and off the bike. Not a hot spot issue. I actually used to work at a Specialized shop for 2 years (Spokes Etc., Northern VA) and am BG fit trained, so that's why I'm somewhat at a loss as to why such a difference exists between the exact same shoe when the only real physical difference should be the tread and hole pattern. Any suggestions?

Brian,

It sounds like there could be an issue with your shoe, or you may need a different size. Please see your dealer for an eval, ask them to contact their Retail Care REP.

Thomas,

I did as you indicated. Ends up the Shop MOD (A-1 Cycling, Herndon, VA), is a 42 and had the exact same issue, exact same model S-works Road versus S-works XC. A good fit 42 road equals 42W in XC.

Can you contact me directly at my e-mail above? Issue resolution may be more of a customer goodwill call versus a strict warranty issue.

Thanks.

Brian,

You will have to work through the shop with this. Again, please have the shop contact their Retail Care Rep.

Thanks,
